Essex Ed Predicts Early Spring
Saturday, February 2, 2013 • 1:12pm
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Essex Ed, West Orange Turtleback Zoo's resident groundhog, did not see his shadow this morning, predicting that an early spring is around the corner.
Turtleback Zoo Manager Adam Heiser was dressed in formal top hat and tails as he announced the arrival of Essex Ed, who was escorted by Zookeeper Tamara Myhal. Although slightly skitterish, Essex Ed conversed quietly with Heiser, who informed the enthusiastic crowd that he did not see his shadow. Cheers erupted and flashes popped at the news.
As Turtleback Zoo celebrates its 50 year anniversary, Essex Ed now holds a 44-50 record on his predictions.
Earlier this morning, Punxsutawney Phi and Staten Island Chuck also predicted an early spring.
