WEST ORANGE, NJ - When senior Chavi St. Hill graduated in June, the West Orange girls volleyball team came into this year's season knowing they would feel the loss of the new Division 1 middle blocker at the University of Maryland, and that adjustments must be made in order to have a successful season. Despite the loss of St. Hill, senior captain Erin Lester has stepped up to the plate and has had a great season so far.

Lester is an outstanding outside hitter with nine blocks and averages approximately 6.5 kills per game. Her most impressive game this season been against Columbia High School in the first round of the Essex County Volleyball Tournament.  Lester recorded two aces, six service points, and nine kills to lead her team to beat Columbia, 2-0.

Lester is a natural when it comes to volleyball.  Not many people would guess that she only began playing in the eighth grade on a local recreational team. Since then, she has played for both  the high school and club volleyball.

Erin wants to play volleyball at the collegiate level and her top two schools include Rutgers-New Brunswick and High Point University, located in North Carolina. In 10 years, she sees herself  with Masters and Bachelors degree in International Business.

Volleyball and school take up most of Erin's schedule. “Volleyball takes up most of my time,” said Lester, “but when I get a minute, I like to watch newly-released scary movies.”

The WOHS Girls Volleyball Team has a current season record of 5-8 with some tough games yet to play. With Erin Lester at the helm and the best efforts of the team, expect to see a lot more competetive girl's volleyball before season's end.
