Service to all customers who can safely receive natural gas service is anticipated to be restored by midweek

UNION, NJ – Nov. 5, 2012 – Maximizing the use of additional resources from its parent company, AGL Resources, Elizabethtown Gas has made significant progress in its emergency response efforts and is fully transitioning to another crucial component of its emergency disaster plan – Service restoration.

In the week since the storm, crews have completed damage assessments on nearly 8,000 premises and are currently going door-to-door to restore natural gas service to customers who can safely receive natural gas service.

Elizabethtown Gas expects to restore service by midweek to all customers who have had electricity restored and are ready to receive service, and to replace an estimated 1,100 flooded meters and regulators by the end of the week.

“At this point in our efforts, we have the ability to serve 100 percent of our customers,” said Brian MacLean, vice president of operations, Elizabethtown Gas.

As part of its outreach initiative, Elizabethtown Gas is continuing to meet with local officials to provide updates on the status of work being performed in their communities. The company has also dispatched individuals called “zone ambassadors” to supplement communication efforts in some of the hardest hit areas of its service territory, such as Elizabeth, Perth Amboy and Carteret.

These representatives, including Elizabethtown Gas president Jodi Gidley, are going door-to-door to make residents aware of the restoration process, provide information on the qualified natural gas contractors in their area, and provide information on programs available to help them. The initiative also gives a “grassroots” view of what customers are experiencing, which allows Elizabethtown Gas to better manage resources on the ground and schedule service appointments.
