EDISON, NJ - Jeff Xie made to the semifinals of the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament after the conclusion of Friday's quarter finales.
Jeff made his Jeopardy! debut earlier this week on Tuesday having to wait as nine other teen contestants competed to determine if Jeff made it into the semifinals.
Jeff came in second on Tuesday with a final total of $19,000 making him eligible for a wildcard spot. Historically, contestants earning over $15,000 have made it to the semifinals as a wildcard, but Jeff still had to wait till Friday for the results.
"I was very excited. I felt lucky to get this far, and I hope I can go further in the competition," said Jeff Xie. "I knew that I had a high chance of getting to the semifinals through the wildcard process with a score of $19,000, so I wagered $0 for 'Final Jeopardy' in my first match. That was my strategy: to secure a spot in the semifinals."
One of the most ironic clues Jeff received on Tuesday was in reference to Thomas Edison, his hometown namesake.
"The Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park is so excited for our Edison Township student Jeff Xie's success on the game show, Jeopardy!," said Kathleen Carlucci, Director of Interpretation, Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park. "We are especially proud that when given the clue regarding Menlo Park and 400 inventions, he answered first and correctly."
Jeff will compete against fellow contestants, William Golden and Sydney Mokel
Tune in on Monday, July 28 at 7 p.m. on ABC to watch Jeff in the Semifinals.
