EDISON, NJ - The environmental nonprofit Edison Wetlands Association (EWA) will host an Owl Call and Moth Night in the Dismal Swamp Conservation Area starting at their popular Triple C Ranch and Nature Center at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014.

Renowned birder, Emile DeVito, leader of many owl tours in Central Jersey and Manager of Science and Stewardship at New Jersey Conservation Foundation, will guide the Owl Prowl through the Dismal Swamp trails giving the public the chance to hear and possibly see Great-Horned and Screech Owls in their natural habitat. Then Blaine Rothhauser, biologist, naturalist and photographer, leader of many moth nights in Central Jersey, will lure moths to the Triple C Ranch. This is an up close and personal opportunity to see a variety of moths, such as the Isabella Tiger Moth or the Pink-spotted hawkmoth.

Visitors can bring cameras, binoculars, flashlights, and should wear boots or shoes that may get wet or dirty. Please check Edison Wetlands Association or Dismal Swamp Conservation Area for updates on the event or cancellation due to inclement weather. There is a $5 suggested donation per person.

The 1,450-acre Dismal Swamp Conservation Area is located in South Plainfield, Edison and Metuchen, and is home to an estimated 165 species of birds, 20 mammals, and 20 amphibians and reptile species including at least a dozen threatened and endangered species. EWA is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting human health and the environment in Central New Jersey.

This event is open to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and is a great opportunity to hear owls and see moths on a guided tour of the 1,250-acre natural oasis known as "The Diz." The event will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, September 5, 2014. Please meet at the farm located at 206 Tyler Road in Edison at 6:30 PM for check-in.

Visitors must RSVP, as space is limited. Please call our offices at 732-321-1300 and leave a message with your name, phone number, and total persons in your party.
