NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Boys’ lacrosse attacker Jon Ebert became the third active Pioneer to reach the 100-goal plateau, as the New Providence boys’ lacrosse team improved to their perfect early season with an 11-4 victory over East Brunswick.
Ebert scored twice in the game to join fellow senior James Burke and junior Jack Harvey as the three active players to reach the career milestone.
New Providence head coach Vinny Carangelo said Ebert is a better player than any coach could dream of.
“He’s a great kid, great player, who has grown into a phenomenal leader for us,” Carangelo said. “He's passionate and always gives everything he has - really all a coach could ever ask for.”
This is the third season the three have played together, as they became starting attackers when Harvey was a freshman in 2012.
Carangelo said Burke, Ebert and Harvey are one of the best attack groups in New Providence history.
“I'd say despite a lot of talented players in the past, this has to be the most talented trio of attackers this program has seen,” Carangelo said. “They have started together for three years now and love playing together and love seeing each other score and succeed just as much as themselves. It's fun to watch and fun to coach.”
The three starting attackers combined to score eight of the Pioneers’ 11 goals, with Burke scoring a game-high four tallies.
Harvey and Mike Palmieri each recorded three assists in the game.
John Krayowski scored two goals for East Brunswick (1-3). Brett Clarke and Mike Solimini each recorded a goal for the Bears.
Sophomore goalie Garrett Pope recorded 12 saves to win the fifth game of his varsity career.
New Providence returns to action on Tuesday when the Pioneers visit Newark Academy for a 4 p.m. tilt.
