Eastside Boys Get Top Seed in State Tourney Sectionals

PATERSON, NJ - Defending champion Eastside High got the top seed Group 4, Section 1 in the upcoming state boys' basketball tournament.
The Ghosts are scheduled to play 16th-seeded Union City in the first round of the tournament, which is scheduled to start February 27. The Kennedy boys, meanwhile were seeded 11th and will face sixth-seeded Wayne Valley in the opening round. Last year, both Eastside and Kennedy started with low seeds but battled their way to the sectional finals against each other. Eastside prevailed in that contest and won the state Group 4 title before losing in Tournament of Champions to Newark Central
In the girls' tournament, the Lady Knights were seeded sixth and face 12th-seeded Bloomfield in the first round, while the Lady Ghosts are the 8th seed and play 9th-seeded Ridgwood. Last year, the Kennedy girls won the North Jersey Group 4 title before losing to Ranconcas Valley in the state group finals.
