Dunec Recognizes Small Business Week and Calls for “Smarter Regulation” of Small Business Financing

LIVINGSTON, NJ - In recognition of the Small Business Administration’s National Small Business Week (May 12 through 16) Mark Dunec reiterated his support for New Jersey’s small businesses, and called for accessible financing for small businesses across America.
Dunec is a Democrat candidate for Congress, running to unseat New Jersey Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen in the State’s 11th District this year.
“I support the SBA’s Small Business Week, because small businesses are the growth engine of our economy, and in our district in particular. In our district, 95% of all companies are small businesses, and they employ the lion’s share of people. Yet, in the past several years, thousands of small businesses have left our state or closed down. We need to change course and make our economy friendly to small businesses,” said Dunec.
“For small businesses to thrive there must be a financial system in place that is willing to finance them. Even the most reasonable business venture will fail to get off the ground if it cannot find a sufficient and reliable source of financial backing. To guarantee this, we need to look to the structure of the financial sector with regard to the accessibility and safety of small-scale business loans.
Dunec said his approach would be “smarter regulation,” not more or less regulation.
“I am not looking to add burdensome regulations to lenders, or take away regulations that provide useful protection to businesses and consumers, but I would strive to make our financial regulation smarter and more effective for all,” he said. “If loans are too expensive, or too fraught with personal risk, New Jersey’s next start up may never be more than an idea.”
