Dread Hatred From Within

Dread hatred from within and defend yourself against it.
In calamitous times it will cut deeper than a potter's knife.
--Tirukkural 89: 883 (Hindu)
Self-hatred is the root of all hatred. If we do not love ourselves, chances are we will not truly love anyone else. When we find that we hate people, animals, or things, we are engaging in self-hate because the truth is that we are all connected. Sometimes, self-hatred is from experiences where people have hated us. In other words, it can be learned. This can happen through exposure to racism, sexism, and ageism, as well as abuse experienced by children. People of color in particular carry many scars because of the color of our skin, the texture of our hair, the size of our lips, our language, and our very expression of life. We have been disregarded, overlooked, marginalized, enslaved, and killed because of who we are. We have had to fight the self-hatred of others on every front. Many times, we were left with doubt and denial about our own greatness. If self-hatred is the root of all hatred, then fear is the root of self-hatred. What part of you are you afraid of? Your looks, intellect, power, skills? We were all made in the image and likeness of God. Like someone once told me, feel the fear and be or do it anyway!
I was made for the glory of God.
