Douglass - Rutgers University Connects With Women’s Org AAUW-NJ for The College’s Proactive Approach to Close the Graduate Gender Pay Gap

Douglass College has presented certificates of appreciation to AAUW of New Jersey for their individual contributions in providing the Douglass Campus staff facilitator training on salary negotiations. This is an important segment to their student professional development programs they offer on campus.
Jocelyn Tejada Director of Traditional Programs and Student Leadership realized the value of becoming a C/ U Partner with AAUW (American Association of University Women). Her department is part of the Initiatives Office of Junior & Senior Year Programs at Rutgers University - Douglass Residential College. Tejada had researched the benefits of being an AAUW College/University partnership including AAUW’s $mart $tart program. She received a package of very relative information provided by AAUW of New Jersey’s C/P Partnership Rep and Executive VP Barbara Williamson.
This material included AAUW’s report - Graduating to a Pay Gap: The Earnings of Women and Men One Year after College Graduation. The AAUW study revealed that despite the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, women continued to earn less than men in every occupation. This included occupations held by female college graduates with their first post graduation paycheck. The AAUW study offered bleak statistics on gender pay disparities despite equal educational backgrounds. Besides this revealing study, AAUW had developed “for campus use” programs on running pay negotiation workshops that focused on the female pre graduate student. Their most popular program is called $tart $mart.
On February 23rd the AAUW’s Facilitator Experts of the $mart $tart program became part of the presentation team for Douglass’s Annual Women’s Career Conference. The AAUW’s contributing members in attendance were: AAUW-NJ President Sally Anne Goodson – resides in Essex & Sussex County area; Virginia Lyttle – C/U Partnership Program Director resides in Morris & Somerset County area; AAUW-NJ Board of Directors Jane Baus- Niemeyer and President of the Barnegat Light Area; and Joan Odud College & University Liaison and resides in the NJ Monmouth County area. This conference was entitled The $ecrets to $alary Negotiation for Women.
Seen in photo is AAUW’s Virginia Lyttle giving a presentation on AAUW‘s Graduation to a Pay Gap study. In the conclusion to this conference the take away motto was “Girls Just Want To Have Funds”.
