WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange ice hockey team took home their fourth win of the season against Morris Hills on Saturday at Codey Arena. Their 7-3 victory was marked by hat tricks from Captains Alec Hill and Jonathan Miller.
Morris Hills’s Tyler Masar scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Chris Didriksen.
The Mountaineers' Miller followed up with two goals for West Orange. Max Gomes and Elijah Roberts assisted the first goal, and co-captain Chris Hanley assisted on the second. Hanley then turned around to score an unassisted goal. Displaying confidence, West Orange outshot Morris Hills 20-5 in shots on goal.
James Brennan of Morris Hills scored the final goal of the period. It was assisted by Brian McCormick. First period ended with the Mountaineers in the lead, 3-2.
Brennan scored again, with an assist from McCormick, to start off the second period. West Orange’s Miller scored his third goal of the game, assisted by Roberts.
The Mountaineers dominated the entire third period of the game. Hill scored all three goals for West Orange. The first and last goals were assisted by Miller. The second goal was assisted by Miller and Gomes.
Coach Eddie Scafidi said of Saturday’s game, “I thought we were flat in the first two periods. I thought we played well in the third period out scoring them 3-0. I think all the snow days hurt us. We weren’t on the ice for a week and it showed. When we get goals from anybody else, besides Miller and Hill, we are much better. So, when Hanley scored, it changed the momentum of the game.”
The Mountaineers will play their next game at Codey Arena against Livingston on Jan. 27 at 4:15 p.m.
