SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The township of Scotch Plains and John’s Meat Market will be sponsoring a special “Doo Wop” concert on the Village Green on Thursday evening, Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. to raise money for the planned Vietnam Memorial in front of City Hall.

“We are really excited by this,” said Vincent Losavio, owner of John’s Meat Market. “We have been planning this for some time, we have contacted many Vietnam Vet organizations and we may have to close off the street to accommodate the crowd.”

The main event will be Doo Wop music provided by The Jersey Jukebox, a group dedicated to performing the music that “made us all smile and remember those special times of the past”. The Jersey Jukebox is comprised of Rick Davis, Mike Del Franco, Pat Moschetto and Ray Block, with their newest member Tom DeBruin.  (sample their music here)

All money raised will go to the Vietnam Memorial, which  will be built to commemorate all of the service people who fought in Vietnam, those who died and those who remained Missing In Action (MIA).

The Memorial has been spearheaded by Bob LaCosta, who served in Vietnam and is currently the head of the Scotch Plains Building Department.

“We want to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy a great night; there will be great things to eat, face-painting, great music and of course, an honor guard to give homage to the service men and women who paid for our freedom with their lives,” said Losavio.
