Donate School Supplies to Those In Need

As the temperatures rise with each summer day, and the steamy summer weather keeps people searching for cool, air-conditioned spots to hide, it is hard to remember that, in just a few months, we will be packing lunch boxes and backpacks.
Just as the local community should care for those in the heat, checking on neighbors without air conditioners, keeping the elderly and infants coolly dressed, and even remembering to chill the pets, so too should we start thinking about those in need come the busy school months.
Ambler Savings Bank (ASB), with branches in Ambler, Schwenksville, Limerick and Fairview Village, is already one step ahead of us. They have already begun thinking of ways to keep the neighbors stocked up, even those in the most need.
To do so, the banks will be partnering with a local charity. The bank locations will be collecting school supplies throughout the month of July.
“School supplies will be donated to Feel the Warmth,” explained ASB media contact Leann Pettit. “Feel the Warmth is located in Jeffersonville and aids children in need in the Greater Philadelphia region.”
Feel The Warmth goes beyond collecting hats, gloves and coats. It supports families in need with much more.
“These families are found through schools and organizations in the area that deal with housing assistance, food stamps, utility aid, etc.,” explains the Feel the Warmth website. “Also, a large percentage of those in need are found by you, the neighbor and friend of someone facing financial difficulties.”
The Norristown-based facility also helps those that are homeless, aiding those “living in shelters, as well as families who are living week-to-week.”
ASB welcomes the community to help them give back to those in need.
“Collection boxes will be in the lobbies of all Ambler Savings Bank throughout the month of July,” said Pettit. To find nearest branch, visit the ASB website here. For a majority of Lower Providence Township residents, the Fairview Village location, located at Germantown Pike and Park Avenue, is the most convenient.
But what do the families need? Skip the traditional thoughts for hats and gloves and get a jump on shopping for the school supplies. Many area superstores are already converting shelves away from barbeque and camping supplies to stock up on Back to School needs.
ASB welcomes residents to get in on those early sales to help those in need.
“In demand items for Feel the Warmth include: backpacks, black dry erase markers, crayons, white-lined paper, marble notebooks, folders, and construction paper,” said Pettit. “All school supplies items that are donated should be new.”
