Dog of the Week - Help Dixie Find Her Forever Home

Dixie is a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever/Shepherd mix. She and her 6 puppies (3 male, 3 female) were found in a small makeshift pen in a Georgia backyard. The owner had passed away and it was over a week before someone found them. Their living conditions were horrific. Living in small pen that was completely nailed shut, the dogs were without food, water or sunlight. When she was found, Dixie was so thin her ribs were showing. She had been using her calories (body fat) to make milk for her puppies.

After a few weeks of getting lots of food and love in a foster home in Georgia, Dixie has gained her weight back and enjoys being in a house now. She gets along well with children, cats and other dogs. Dixie is spayed and up to date with her vaccinations. We are looking forward to finding Dixie and her 6 puppies a wonderful new place to call home.
