Diversity Festival and Event for Children with Special Needs Held in Youth Appreciation Week

LIVINGSTON, NJ – Two main events will be featured in Livingston’s upcoming 18th annual Youth Appreciation Week. On May 23, The Diversity Appreciation Week Committee, in association with the West Essex YMCA, the Township of Livingston, and the Bicentennial Committee, will host a “Diversity Festival” from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M.. On May 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., the Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) and the West Essex YMCA will sponsor a special event for children with special needs. Both events will be held at the West Essex WMCA located on 321 South Livingston Ave.
The “Diversity Festival,” celebrating the unique cultural groups that make up Livingston, is free of charge and open to everyone, no matter age or race. The event will feature cuisine from around the world as well as an international fashion show, where volunteers will dress in clothing that represents the different ethnicities of Livingston’s population.
The event for children with special needs is open to children with special needs and their parents. Guests are invited to partake in a special night of games and activities. From 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., a wiffle ball clinic will be held. Festivities in the 7:00 P.M. hour will include a music clinic, a magic show, and the talents of a balloon artist.
The mission statement for The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities, “is to improve the quality of life for those people with disabilities and their families.”
The DAWC is also looking for volunteers to help host the event. Individuals can either partake in the international fashion show as a model, host a country display and food table, present a cultural performance, or anything else they can come up with.
