SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, Jim Pornovets Memorial Golf League - Mark "Mr. Steady" Chichvar put together a terrific 2-over 35 to lead McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals to a critically important

10-10 tie with Unique Sports Accessories.  The tie helped McCriskin's remain two full games ahead of the South Plainfield Funeral Home with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.  This means that McCriskin's needs to defeat just one of their two remaining opponents--Dirty Harry & Friends or Sport & Social -- to clinch the National Division title.

Chris "The King of King Street" Dillon matched Chichvar's 35, Gene De Carlo shot a 36, and Ted "Old Reliable" Stanik had a 38 for Unique Sports Accessories who stayed in third place.

Alfie's Boys continued on their self-destructive path by fielding only two golfers, making it very easy for the South Plainfield Funeral Home to cruise to a 13-7 victory.  Matt Ward, Jr. unloaded some bombs on the way to a 36 to gain medalist honors for the victors who sit in second place.

For Alfie's Boys, Danny Griffin packed his bag with some soothing Heineken elixir for his aching ankle, and the pain went away after several applications, and Griffin played beautifully and posted a sparkling even-par 33.  Bill Mann, also playing solo, carded a 37 in a futile effort.  This season has gone down the drain for Alfie's Boys after a great start.  They will have to address some serious roster issues over the winter if they plan to be competitive next year.

The Twin City Pharmacy powerhouse is now in high gear, and they put on a full display of that power as Joe Diller and Guy Severini registered impressive 34's,  Jay Coppola pitched in with a 36, and Frank Gaspari completed the dazzling show with his 37.  With a lot of strokes to give, Twin City needed all of these sterling scores to get by Sport & Social, 12-8.  For the losers, Scott MacDonald earned the medal with a 39.

Next week, Twin City will take on their closest rival, KC's Korner, in a match that could be decisive.  In the meantime, KC's Korner kept their divisional title hopes alive by downing Dirty Harry & Friends, 14-6.  Efrain Solis and Nick Vetuschi both looked sharp in firing a pair of 35's, and Jeff Pryor added a 37.  Pryor has left a lot of golfers at West Nine in a state of awe as the word gets around that he recently set a new course record with his fantastic round of 26 that began with two pars followed by seven amazing birdies.

For Dirty Harry & Friends, Charlie Oates added to his string of fine performances with a nifty 2-over 35.

Jeff Gross picked corn for a few hours before coming to the course as part of his new strength-building regimen, and his labors in the field paid off as he carded a 39 to lead his Italian-American Club squad to a whopping 18-2 triumph over Witty'sLiquors.

Billy "Cappy" Capparelli got special permission from the league officers to have his youthful swing coach ride along with him in his golf cart, and the coach helped him put together a nice round of 37.  Jim Parker also shot a 37 without any guidance, but their solid play was not enough to help Witty's from slipping into last place in the American Division.

In the final match of the night, Dave Mancini lit up the course with an even-par 33 to drive 2 Buds, 2 Dubes to a 14-6 victory over Windows Plus.  Mark Van Name added a nice round of 36, and Jeff Orth came through with a 39.

For Windows Plus, Dave Romano shot a 38, and Matt Frederickson had another good night and posted a 39.

LOW ROUNDS OF THE NIGHT:  Danny Griffin, 33; Dave Mancini, 33; Joe Diller, 34; Guy Severini, 34; Mark Chichvar, 35; Efrain Solis, 35; Chris Dillon, 35; Charlie Oates, 35; Nick Vetuschi, 35.
