(SCOTCH PLAINS) On Sunday, supporters of the Scotch Plains Democratic candidates gathered at the home of Colleen and Anthony Gialanella for a traditional Italian Sunday dinner.
“What a tremendous outpouring of support! I’d love to think it was a sign of only how good the food is,” stated Mayoral candidate Kevin Glover. “However, I know it’s something even more. This election is a defining moment for our Township. Are we going to embrace the failed policies of the past 12 years that led to higher taxes and cuts in services, or are we going to move forward working together for a better Scotch Plains.”
Several prominent Democrats from across Union County came out to support Kevin and Colleen. Among them, Assemblywoman Linda Stender, Freeholder Al Mirabella, Mayor Colleen Mahr and Linden Councilman Derek Armstead.
Guests dined on homemade dishes which included eggplant, sausage, salami, lasagna and Colleen’s mother’s famous meatballs.
“I would like to thank all of our friends, family and supporters who have joined us for Sunday dinner,” said Colleen Gialanella, candidate for Scotch Plains Council. “For us, Sunday dinner has always been a time for the entire family to gather at the table. We laugh and tell stories and eat way too much. My family has asked you here today to give you some idea of what our family is about and the things that are important to us. Scotch Plains was made rich by the culture and talent brought to it by families just like ours. Kevin and I believe that it is time to return Scotch Plains to a community that supports hard working families with better services and more reasonable property tax bills. Our opponents will tell you that this can’t be done while towns all around us are doing just that. Each of you came here today because you also believe that change is possible and that Kevin and I can do better. Today, you’re a part of our family. Now, mangiamo!"
“Everyone left well fed and ready to work from now until Election Day, where we will have a new Mayor in Kevin Glover and a new Councilwoman in Colleen Gialanella.” declared Scotch Plains Democratic Chairman Lou Beckerman.
