Saturday, August 24, 2013 • 6:55pm

SUMMIT, NJ - Violinist Della Natasha Davies and Jazz Pianist Daniel Rufolo will join forces in a fused performance of classical and jazz genres September 7 at Christ Church in Summit.  The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., pairs Summit natives Davies, an energetic performer now based in Eugene, OR, and Rufolo, who has been performing for many years at Christ Church’s late morning Sunday Meditative Services, in an evening of sound and vibrant energy from a new generation of performers who expand the appeal of classical music.

Davies currently performs with the Eugene Symphony and the newly found Orchestra NEXT.  Recently, she began teaching at the Shedd Institute, having graduated in 2010 from the Swiss Zuercher Hochschule der Kunste with a Masters degree of Violin Performance under the tutelage of Professor Zakhar Bron.  She has also been Concertmaster of the New Jersey Youth Symphony, Assistant Principal with the New York Youth Symphony, and Assistant Concertmaster, performing frequently at Carnegie Hall. In 2001 and 2002, she took part with the National Festival Orchestra under the direction of Lukas Foss at Carnegie Hall.

Rufolo recently completed his master’s degree in jazz performance at the Manhattan School of Music, and, in 2010, he received a Bachelor of Music in jazz performance from William Paterson University.  Throughout his musical education, he studied with musicians such as Mulgrew Miller, Armen Donelian, Harold Mabern,Rich Perry and Rich Derosa. While attending William Paterson, Mr. Rufolo discovered his passion for classical and new music while studying piano under professor Elka Kirkpatrick. Known for constantly stretching the borders and limits of jazz, Rufolo and his Trio have been playing throughout New York City and New Jersey at venues including Cornelia Street Cafe and Shanghai Jazz. The Dan Rufolo Trio recently released their album, “Laughter” featuring Dan Rufolo, Bill Thoman, Rich Perry and Nathan Eklund with original compositions from Mr. Rufolo and bassist Bill Thoman.
