LONG HILL, NJ - A week from today marks the four month anniversary of the disappearance of David Bird.

Bird was last seen Jan. 11, when he left his home, telling his family he was taking a "short walk" . His cellphone remained at home to charge.

Despite extensive searches of the area, authorities have found no trace of Bird.  He was last seen wearing a red rain jacket with distinctive yellow zippers, blue jeans and sneakers.

"His family asks that members of the public in and around Long Hill Township continue to search yards, outbuildings, nearby wooded areas — and their memories — for any clues to Mr. Bird’s disappearance," a spokeswoman for the family said in a statement last week.

Friends of Bird created a "Help David Bird’s Family" page on the crowdfunding website youcaring.com in March to benefit The Bird Family Trust. The site raised $25,000 in just two months.

Jennie DeMizio says on the site:

David Bird is a devoted family man, husband to Nancy, and father to teens Alex and Natasha. He is a beloved community member who is a Boy Scout Leader in the Patriots' Path Council. Since David's liver transplant in 2004, he has been a tireless fundraiser for The New Jersey Sharing Network, and the New York Organ Donor Network. David is a senior energy journalist who has worked for Dow Jones for 20+ years. He is also a great outdoorsman who shares his passion for the natural world with friends, Scouts, and family. David is a compassionate and gentle soul whose disappearance has rocked the very heart of his small community. His adoring family is utterly distraught, and without any insight into the cause of his disappearance. While David's family and friends still hold out great hope for his safe return, we recognize that the road ahead will be challenging for the Bird Family. Friends of the Bird family have decided to set up this website to raise money to support the Bird family's needs - present and future.

Any contribution that you can make at this time is greatly appreciated. If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to "The Bird Family Trust," and add "online donation" in the memo portion of the check. The check can be sent to: The Bird Family Trust, P.O. Box 234, Millington, NJ, 07946. We will add these contributions to the website. This donation is not tax-deductable. However, it is an instrumental gesture of support for the Bird Family, during this unimaginable ordeal.

On behalf of the many friends of the Bird Family, please accept my deepest gratitude for your generosity of resources and spirit.
