SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Councilman Louis Beckerman and Democratic Chairperson Assemblywomen Linda Stender launched the 2013 Campaign for the Council Seat left open by Kevin Glover when he was elected Mayor. Beckerman was appointed to the open seat in January, but to remain he must win the election in November 2013.
“There is an excitement and enthusiasm in Scotch Plains that indicates that people are happy with the new direction that the new Council is taking,” said Assemblywoman Stender. “We are lucky to have a Mayor and Council that are working so hard to move the town forward.”
Mayor Glover spoke about winning “by the largest landslide in history,” and how going forward it needed to be about what was best for Scotch Plains, not partisan politics.
“I am honored to kick off the 2013 Lou Beckerman campaign,” said Mayor Glover, “and know that failure is not an option!” He went on to thank the Deputy Mayor Colleen Gialanella her hard work as well as Fanwood Colleen Mahr “for her mentorship and support.”
Councilman Beckerman then stepped up and talked about how “the big race is here and the pressure is on,” to continue to work hard for the people of Scotch Plains on issues such as the proposed Police merger, keeping taxes contained, working on the SID and delivering thing such as the AM Radio Station.
“I am humbled by your support and I am proud of the support given to me by my wife, and my family,” Councilman Beckerman concluded.
