SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - McGinn Elementary School's back path will be affected by a new road construction project in the area during school hours.

According to the Scotch Plains Police Department, the Department of Public Works will be doing construction on roads leading to the wooded back path of the school. Streets leading to the back path will be opened up to replace large piping.

For the next few months, beginning at 8:30 a.m., the following roads will be closed:

Algonquin Road from Hetfield to the back path circle.

Princeton Avenue from Highview Court to the back path circle.

The police department warns parents and students that there may be holes, cones and large machinery and equipment on the roads during this time. Furthermore, there will be restricted parking.

Police are urging parents and guardians responsible for picking up and dropping off their kids to find an alternate path to school.

Even before access to the back path was restricted, road congestion and traffic delays have been an ongoing issue in the front of the school, and on the arteries leading from Martine Avenue up to the front of McGinn.

The new construction only figures to exacerbate those issues, so commuters who use Martine Avenue through that area in the morning should also be wary and either allow themselves extra time or find an alternate route to avoid Martine Avenue between LaGrande Avenue and West Broad Street--the segment of Martine which sees extremely heavy congestion between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. daily.
