SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - The Shabbatones, an a cappella ensemble, will give a concert and conduct a musical workshop at Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains on Saturday, March 16 at 4 pm. The Shabbatones sing popular Israeli, Jewish and American songs that appeal to a diverse audience.
The Shabbatones will conduct a musical workshop geared especially for children and teenagers who enjoy singing and want to learn basic a cappella techniques. At the same time the Cantor of Cogregation Beth Israel, Matt Axelrod, will review Passover melodies with the adults in attendance. The workshops will be followed by a Shabbatones concert for all ages.
“This will be a wonderful way to spend a Shabbat afternoon, filled with Jewish music and learning,” said Cantor Matt Axelrod.
The Shabbatones, a nationally recognized a cappella ensemble from the University of Pennsylvania, recently toured San Francisco, Houston, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Miami. . Ezra Margolin, 21, the Shabbatones’ Tour Manager and Past-President, is a member of Congregation Beth Israel. Ezra, who resides in Westfield, had been President of Congregation Beth Israel’s youth group, United Synagogue Youth, 2007-2008.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Ezra back so he and his fellow performers can inspire a new generation of children,” Axelrod said.
