Scotch Plains/Fanwood —

Congregation Beth Israel to Hold Community-Wide Purim Party

Monday, March 3, 2014 • 9:48am

Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains will hold a family Purim celebration on Sunday, March 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.  The event is free and open to the community. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes, as is customary during the Jewish holiday of Purim.

The Megillah, the Book of Esther traditionally read on Purim, will be read in an abbreviated form to appeal to children. (The Megillah will be read in its entirety at Purim services on Saturday evening, March 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m.)

A Purim carnival will follow the kid-friendly Megillah reading.  The carnival will feature a bouncy house, games, food, and prizes.  There will also be a costume parade.

“Purim is a fun holiday for the entire family. We look forward to welcoming the community to Congregation Beth Israel for this wonderful day,” said Elly Bauman, Education Director of Congregation Beth Israel.
