Students in grades five through seven in Congregation Beth Israel’s Religious School in Scotch Plains sent Hanukkah cards to schoolchildren in Israel on November 26.

The Religious School students learned about current conflicts in Israel by studying with  Inbar Sade, an Israeli emissary. Through a program sponsored by Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest, Inbar, age 18, works weekly at Congregation Beth Israel to teach students about her country.

“Inbar teaches the students about modern-day Israel in very creative and fun ways,” said Elly Bauman, Education Director of Congregation Beth Israel.

The students created cards with well-wishes and Hanukkah greetings to be sent to children like themselves who attend school in Ofakim, Israel.  Ofakim is one of three “sister” towns in southern Israel supported by Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest.
