Congregation Beth Israel Students Celebrate Lag B'Omer
Tuesday, May 22, 2012 • 10:46am
Students in Congregation Beth Israel’s Religious School in Scotch Plains celebrated the Jewish holiday of Lag B'Omer on Wednesday, May 9, by competing in a Maccabiah (color war). It is customary for schoolchildren to celebrate Lag B’Omer by playing with bows and arrows to commemorate battles waged by Jews against ancient Roman rule. The two teams -- named Kachol and Levan for the Hebrew words for blue and white, respectively -- participated in educational games and physical challenges to earn points.
