Saturday, January 4, 2014 • 9:50am
Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains will introduce a program called Let’s Do Shabbat on Thursday, January 9, from 9:45 – 10:30 a.m. Designed for children four years old and under with a parent or caregiver, the program will expose the very young to basic Jewish concepts and rituals as they prepare for the Jewish Sabbath. Let’s Do Shabbat is free and open to the community.
Let’s Do Shabbat will include challah baking, crafts, story telling and Kosher snacks.
Let’s Do Shabbat will meet monthly on the following Thursday mornings: January 9, February 6, March 6, April 24, May 29. The February and May programs will be co-sponsored by Congregation Beth Israel and PJ Library, a project of The Partnership for Jewish Learning and Life.
“Our idea was to create an interactive Jewish educational environment for families with young children,” said Elly Bauman, Education Director of Congregation Beth Israel. “By offering programs such as Let’s Do Shabbat, we hope to assist families in bringing more Judaism into their homes.”
Congregation Beth Israel offers additional programs designed for young children, including an early Friday night service called the Shabbat Shalom Club and a Pre-K Sunday School class. PJ Library offers free Jewish books for children ages six months to seven years.
