MAPLEWOOD/SOUTHORANGE, NJ - Here’s what’s happening this week in SOMA:

Monday, July 21

2-7 p.m. – Maplewood Farmer’s Market at the Indiana Street Parking Lot at the intersection of Indiana Street and Springfield Avenue.

Tuesday, July 22

6:30 p.m. – South Orange Public Safety Meeting at 76 South Orange Avenue, 3rd Floor.

Wednesday, July 23

9:30 a.m. – South Orange Recreation and Cultural Affairs meeting at the Baird Center.

2-7 p.m. - South Orange Farmer’s Market at the Sloan Street parking lot.

Thursday, July 24

6:30 p.m. – Basic Digital Photo Editing class with professional photographer Joy Yagid will show how cropping can change the feel of a photo, and how to correct color and tweak contrast. Bring your camera or up to 10 images on a CD or thumb drive. Open to Maplewood residents with a valid Maplewood Library card.  To reserve a spot, email programs@maplewoodlibrary.org7:30 p.m. – Free Concert in the Park at Flood’s Hill, South Orange: John Lee & Friends: Bassist, composer, educator and producer, John Lee is the co-founder of Jazz Legacy Productions and also serves as the executive director of the Dizzy Gillespieâ„¢ All-Stars and All-Stars Big Band with whom he performs regularly. A resident of South Orange, NJ, John has played in the bands of Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, McCoy Tyner, Larry Coryell, Joe Henderson, and Dizzy Gillespie.

Saturday, July 26

11 a.m. - Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes: It’s elementary: those fascinated by the timeless tales of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes will enjoy this talk by Dr. Robert A. Moss, member of The Baker Street Irregulars and a Holmes aficionado. In his presentation at the Maplewood Main Library, Dr Moss will offer some lesser-known insights into both the character of Holmes and its creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and will discuss their representation on postage stamps.
