SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Seton Hall will host the 2014 Conference on Women and Gender Studies, “Challenges, Opportunities, Possibilities,” on Friday, March 28. The conference is open to the public.

In the spirit of Women’s History Month, the Office of the Provost of SHU will honor professor Deirdre Yates of Wester Orange, chairwoman of department of communication and the arts at Seton Hall and a theater professor, as the recipient of the 2014 Woman of the Year award. She will be honored at a luncheon, which is sold out.

The conference is a recent addition to the Women and Gender studies academic program at SHU. The day long gathering of experts in the field of women and gender studies will feature speakers on many different topics.

The conference is broken up into three separate sessions, each of which will be moderated by a Seton Hall professor. The sessions deal with different topics, ranging from "Representations of Race and Gender" to "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Order and Disorder in 18th-Century Britain and Early America."

The end of the conference will be headlined by winners of the Women’s and Gender Undergraduate Essay Contest.

The event is open to the public, and all presentations and panels will be held in the Arts and Science Building on the SHU campus. The panels are free, but attendees are asked to register at http://www7.shu.edu/womens-conference.cfm
