WEST ORANGE, NJ - United Presbyterian Church of West Orange is sponsoring a Community Blood Drive on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is offering a chance for a gift basket valued at $100 to everyone who donates.  The congregation is "Giving Back for Becca," their beloved pastor in recovery from a bone marrow transplant after being diagnosed with leukemia three years ago.

Blood supplies are critically low right now, due to the harsh winter weather and icy roads.  And yet the process of giving blood is safe and simple.  The actual giving of blood takes only about 10 minutes. That 10 minutes can save 3 lives.  It is safe to give blood every 56 days, and many people are repeat donors.  But if only one percent more of all Americans gave blood, there wouldn't be any shortages.

The Blood Center of New Jersey will bring its state-of-the-art Bloodmobile to the church campus, where volunteers from United Presbyterian will have plenty of food for donors.  United Presbyterian volunteers have also created a beautiful gift basket of goodies which one lucky donor will get to take home.

To be a blood donor, one must be at least 16 years old, must know your Social Security number and have a photo or signed ID.  Sixteen year olds must present a signed parental consent form.  It is also important to eat and to drink water before and after.

United Presbyterian Church is located at 20 Old Indian Road, just off Prospect Avenue, in West Orange.  For directions, call 973-731-1868 or visit www.upcwo.org.
