BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Last night the Berkeley Heights community joined together for Phoebe’s Comedy Night at the Mt. Carmel Hall, to raise money for the Roar with Phoebe Foundation. This fund is in support of the Green family and their three-year old daughter, Phoebe, who was diagnosed with the rare and life-threatening genetic blood disorder, Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome more commonly known as A.L.P.S.

This disorder affects Phoebe’s white blood cells causing the cells to rapidly form, which could lead to an increased chance of becoming diagnosed with lymphoma and other types of cancers. A.L.P.S. causes the immune system to attack the body’s tissues and organs. Some long-term effects from A.L.P.S. are damage to the kidneys, liver, eyes, nerves or connective tissue; in addition, the patient may also develop skin rashes. This is a long-term syndrome. When looking at the syndrome as a whole it seems that hope, prayers along with many other treatments are the only way to get through this situation.

Phoebe’s mother, Adrienne Green, chronicles Phoebe’s struggles and the strength of the family in a blog. Phoebe has three sisters and the family strives to preserve a “normal” family life amidst daily obstacles and struggles.

The comedy night turned out to be a huge success. The venue was packed with members of the Berkeley Heights community willing to donate money, participate in the 50/50 and win lots of wonderful prizes donated by local families and businesses. Some of the prizes that were available to win were: New York Red Bull tickets donated by the Rosensweig Family, a European deep cleansing facial donated by Esperanza Salon and Spa and a gift card to Trap Rock Restaurant for $75.

The entire Green family was in attendance and Phoebe melted hearts when she approached the stage confidently to thank the crowd.

Event organizers, Cheri Pertesis and Hilary Froehlich, from Anything Floral, in Berkeley Heights, have known Dan Green, Phoebe’s father, for eleven years and say that he is a very humble, kindhearted man. Over the many years they have known him they created a strong bond of friendship.  When they heard about Phoebe they felt they had to do something to help this wonderful little family. They put together this event where a local mom and a comedian from the Stress factory came to perform. By creating this event, Cheri and Hilary were able to bring together the community in true Berkeley Heights style. The outpouring of love and support for the Green family was nothing short of amazing.

Nearly all of the prizes were donations and most of the people in attendance did not even know the Green family personally, they just wanted to help out a good cause. Overall this evening was a fantastic event to help out a sweet and courageous little girl and her family.

If you missed the event and would like to donate to offset the medical bills that are not covered by insurance, visit the website http://roarwithphoebe.weebly.com and help Roar with Phoebe.
