ROCKAWAY, NJ -- Columbia’s fencing program looks to add two more trophies to the already crowded case as both the boys and girls teams will square off for an NJSIAA state championship title Wednesday at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway.
The boys team clinched their spot in their fifth-straight state championship by defeating Ramapo at the New Jersey Fencing Alliance in Maplewood.
The Cougar boys were NJ.com’s top-ranked team throughout the season as they went undefeated. They look to defend last year’s state title and will face off with Ridge High School.
The girls team will also be in action today, where they look to lock up their 10th state title in 15 years. After knocking off the Livingston Lancers last Wednesday, they will face Bernards High School for the title today at Morris Hills High.
The lady Cougars, who also finished the season undefeated, captured their last title in 2012. They’ll meet with a quality Bernards team that finished ranked second in the state, behind only Columbia.
If they crowned state champions tonight, the fencing program will have garnered an unprecedented 17 state championships in a 15-year span.
