SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD - The 49th edition of the Community Date Calendar 2012-2013 has been published by the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains.  The Calendar can be purchased for $10.00, and all proceeds benefit the Scholarship Fund. 

This is one of the larger fund-raisers of the Club each year.  This year’s cover features the lovely Fanwood Train Station, which was photographed by Fanwood resident Greg Cummings.  Mr. Cummings has participated in many juried exhibitions, and his work has been included in books about New Jersey.

The College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains is a women only service club established In early 1933, when Miss Lillian Virginia Hope invited ten other college women, from her community in New Jersey, into her home to discuss creating a community based organization for college women. The purpose was threefold:

1. To increase the interest of young women in attending college.
2. To develop a scholarship fund.
3. To enjoy the camaraderie of an interesting group of women.

The College Club currently has nearly 70 active members who conduct two major fundraisers each year – the College Club Community Calendar in the Fall and a Fashion Show is the Spring. 

Each year the calendar features an advertiser who has been a supporter for many years.  This year the College Club has selected Scotchwood Florist as its advertiser of the year.  Scotchwood Florist has been advertising in the calendar for 35 years.  The florist shop was started by the De Milt family, and today Lori De Milt Flowers and Dale Flowers continue the tradition of providing floral arrangements in our area.

This year the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains was able to award $35,000 in scholarships to deserving women in Scotch Plains and Fanwood due to several fund-raisers, of which calendar sales is one of the most important.

The calendars are available from any Club member or at the following places: Scotch Plains Public Library, Fanwood Memorial Library, Norman’s Hallmark Store, Scotchwood Florist, Double Dipper Ice Cream Shoppe, Young’s Paints, Excellent Nail Salon, Apple Blossom Florist, Florence Ravioli, Scotch Hills Pharmacy, Di Francesco Realty.  The calendar contains information about all school  and civic organization activities in Scotch Plains and Fanwood.  All important dates and telephone numbers are readily available for the school year September 2012 to September 2013.
