CNN Athlete to Compete in Doc and Sok Triathlon

CNN Fit Nation athlete, Denise Castelli, to participate at the Doc and Sok Triathlon on Sunday May 20th, 2012 in Watchung. Denise will take part in a relay for this event along with Mickey Cassu, owner of Start-tri.com. Denise was chosen as a CNN Fit Nation athlete from thousands of entries across the country.
More about Denise Castelli. Denise has been an athlete all her life. Playing collegiate softball as an All American, she suffered a traumatic leg break which lead to a below the knee amputation. Wanting to reclaim her life as an athlete, she saw an opportunity through CNN"s Fit Nation. She is now part of the "Sexy Seven", a group of 7 people from around the country chosen by Dr. Sanjay Gupta from CNN. They are featured on CNN.com as well as on CNN network along with Dr. Gupta. Their nine months of training culminate at the Malibu Triathlon in September of this year.
Denise is being coached by local coaches Mickey Cassu and Kristin Cacicedo, both from Berkeley Heights. Both are triathlon coaches with Start-Tri.com, and were chosen by CNN to work with Denise this year. While not working with Denise in the pool or out on the road, both Mickey and Kristin are doing some training of their own. On July 22nd, they will be competing at Ironman Lake Placid - Mickey's 5th attempt at the distance and Kristin's 2nd. See www.Start-tri.com
More about the Doc and Sok triathlon. The doc n sok benefits the watchung hill high school track team. It is named after long time Watchung Hills High School track coach Doc Pfeifer and current coach Mary Sok. This is the 4th annual triathlon to be held in Watchung. This continues to be a big community event with hundreds of local kids and adults supporting it. There will be a DJ, raffles and push up contest after the event. See www.greenbrookracing.com
