The Clean and Green Extravaganza fundraiser and car wash at Lansdale Library on July 19 was considered another successful fundraiser, according to director Tom Meyer and Councilwoman Mary Fuller, who chairs the Lansdale Public Library Committee.
All in all, the event raised $1,412 for the library. This year, there was a nice soundtrack to the event, courtesy of DJ Kratz.
“(The amount) is not as much as last year, but we didn’t get sponsorships we had then. Last year, we had over $3,000,” Meyer said at this month’s library committee session. “But, we did good, considering we lost a big chunk of sponsorship.”
Meyer said a used book sale at the Lansdale Farmers’ Market that day brought in $214. About $400 was made through donations from the paper shredding portion of the event, he said. The electronics and metal recycling made $100 for the library.
The car wash itself made $172, Meyer said. Cub Scout Pack 399 came out in full force to help with the car wash.
“We washed almost as many cars as Cub Scouts,” said Fuller, during her library committee report to Lansdale Borough Council last week. “We didn’t make quite as much money as last year, due to the fact that there were not as many sponsorship dollars as in years’ past.”
The big hit at this year’s event – the costume jewelry sale.
“It made $390. It did very well for us,” Meyer said. “That’s surprising for the first year. That’s very good to see.”
Fuller made it clear both at the committee meeting and the council session that, while a big fan of costume jewelry, she cannot take the credit for it.
“No, I did not buy $390 worth of that jewelry,” she said.
Meyer and Fuller gave a big thanks to Impact Thrift Store for its partnership at the event. He said Impact was able to collect “several tons” of clothing.
“Overall, it was a great event and a nice day. A lot of helpers came out,” he said. “We did thank them on Facebook at the time. Cub Scout Pack 399 made a great showing for us. They did a lot of work.”
The 2015 Clean and Green event returns on July 19.
