CLARK, NJ - Third ward councilman Richard Kazanowski, age 61, died suddenly yesterday.  Kazanowski was present at the town council meeting on Monday evening and his passing was unexpected.

Kazanowski, the only Democrat on the town council, was up for reelection in November.  He has been involved in Clark politics since the early 1990s when he was appointed to fill an unexpired term on the council. In 2012, he ran for mayor against incumbent Republican Sal Bonaccorso.

When reached for comment, Mayor Bonaccorso said, “I compliment Rich for finding a balance between government and politics. I appreciate that he understood that politics happened before an election, but government happens every day.  I give him full credit for his work in Clark.”  The mayor went on to extend his deepest condolences to the Kazanowski family.

"I am shocked and saddened," said Clark Democratic Chairperson Nancy Sheridan, "He was the most helpful and most considerate person.  He was always there for his constituents. This is a terrible loss for the town."

Councilman-at-large Al Barr said, “This is a real loss, he was a good guy.  I live in his ward and he was well-liked.”

Flags in the township will fly at half-staff for ten days in Kazanowski’s honor.

Arrangements are being handled through the Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Avenue, Clark, NJ.  Refer to the obituary for arrangment details.
