PATERSON, NJ - Seven new RAVO5 Hydrostatic Vacuum street-sweeping machines will be presented to the city of Paterson by Mayor Jeffery Jones at City Hall at 11 a.m. Friday morning.

“These machines are the latest technology in pure vacuum sweepers and will enable us to clean every street in the city once a week and every downtown street once a day,” Jones said.

After years of breakdowns and expensive repairs, the city purchased seven new RAVO sweepers. The new sweepers will replace the existing fleet of sweepers which have separate motors for drive and sweeper/vacuum functions and are were susceptible to costly repairs, which often meant having to take the machine to multiple locations before they were fixed.  The sweepers were purchased from Northeast Sweeper of Belleville for $1.3 million.

“We are pleased to  present to residents and visitors our ability to keep our city clean,” Jones said.

This is the first major purchase, other than police cars, in the renewal of the city’s work vehicle fleet.

After a lengthy bid process, the RAVO 5 sweeper was selected. The entire fleet is expected to be in service by later this month. Drivers will be receiving training and the vehicles will be out intermittently once the snow melts. A full operation of the motor broom fleet is expected to increase the city's revenue through ticketing for alternate side of the street parking violations.
