PATERSON, NJ - Sometimes crooks pick the wrong person to rob. That's what happened to two suspects who targeted a man in a basement apartment on 12th Avenue at about 1 pm on Monday, according to police
The 42-year-old victim fought back with a razor blade and inflicted enough wounds to force the thieves to go to the hospital, where they ended up being arrested, police said.
Charged with burglary and aggravated assault were Van Burns, 42, of E. 16th Street, and Freddie Mickens Jr., 43, of Lafayette Street, according to Lt. Richard Reyes.
The two of them broke into the apartment, demanded money from the occupant, and began beating him, police said. That's when he grabbed the razor blade and defended himself, police said.
The suspects fled and made their way to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, police said. Staff at the hospital alerted authorities, which ended up resulting in their arrest.
