CRANFORD, NJ — Union County College (UCC) has postponed its plans to construct a field for its soccer, lacrosse and track teams at its Cranford campus in light of community concerns, according to a letter from UCC President Margaret M. McMenamin to Christopher Hudak, Chairman of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

“Opponents of the college’s proposed Cranford Campus field location have cited concerns about flooding and the environment, in spite of the fact that the proposed plan would actually improve ground water retention and drainage at our location,” the letter says.

A public information session at UCC regarding the field set for April 21 has been cancelled.

UCC teams currently practice and play games at 10 different locations across Union County.

“I am seeking your assistance and the assistance of the entire Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders in identifying a suitable alternative location that would meet the needs of our students,” McMenamin said in the letter.
