CHOICES: An Evening for Women with Mika Brzezinski
Wednesday, October 9, 2013 • 4:27pm
Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe and best-selling author, will be the guest speaker at CHOICES, the premier fall event of Women’s Philanthropy (WP) of Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ.
The event will take place on Wednesday, October 30, at the Hilton Parsippany, 1 Hilton Court. The evening will begin at 6:15 with a cocktail reception followed by the program at 7:30. Joni Cohen of Livingston and Melody Fuhr of Short Hills are event chairs. Maxine B. Murnick of Short Hills is Women’s Philanthropy president.
“CHOICES is the first and largest campaign event for Women’s Philanthropy of the year. It provides an opportunity for women in the community to come together in support of all that our Federation does by maximizing the collective power and resources of our caring Jewish women. Each woman in attendance has made the ‘choice’ to give a gift of at least $365 — a dollar a day,” said Murnick.
“The women of Greater MetroWest are compassionate and generous. They always say yes and are always there to help the Jewish people worldwide. Their support of the CHOICES event sets the tone for the entire campaign year for Women’s Philanthropy,” she continued.
“It has been said that to be Jewish is to be a good friend of G-d. A mitzvah is an act of kindness both personal and communal. When a woman gives to WP, she gets to know that she is going to provide for the Jewish people here and around the world,” said Cohen.
“I want multi-generational women to attend CHOICES not only because it’s a fantastic event and the largest WP gathering of the year, but to also experience the power, grace, and beauty of hundreds of determined and committed women who want to build a legacy of tikkun olam (repairing the world). As women we lead our families and teach our children the purpose of tzedakah (righteousness) and it’s our responsibility and right to give and contribute in our own name,” said Fuhr.
Brzezinski’s memoir, All Things At Once, became a New York Times best seller in January 2010, and her second book, Knowing Your Value, which examines the role of women in the workplace, reached #1 on The New York Times best seller list for business books in spring 2011. She also writes “Getting What You Want” for Cosmopolitan, a monthly column about career confidence and empowerment. Additionally, she reports for NBC Nightly News, and serves as alternating news anchor on Weekend Today. She was reporting live from lower Manhattan for CBS News on September 11 when the South Tower collapsed.
Corporate sponsors include General Plumbing Supply, Friedman LLP, Rothstein Kass, Kramer Levin, and Admiral Imports-Sweet Layla/Tishbi Wines, with a special acknowledgement to Allan Janoff and the Crystal Plaza in Livingston.
Registration is $80. A minimum gift of $365 to the 2014 United Jewish Appeal Campaign of Greater MetroWest NJ enables attendance at this event. Dietary laws will be observed.
