Children from Congregation Agudath Israel Gather in Song at West Caldwell Menorah

WEST CALDWELL, NJ - With happy faces and joined in song, children from Caldwell’s Congregation Agudath Israel gathered together around the West Caldwell menorah on Tuesday to celebrate the season of Hanukkah. On hand for the occasion was Rabbi Alan Silverstein, along with West Caldwell Mayor Joseph Tempesta, Jr., Council President Stephen Wolsky, Councilman Rich Otterbein, the township’s administrator, Adam Brewer and Chief of Police Michael J. Bramhall.

The children began by singing “The Candle Blessing,” a traditional hanukkah piece which is sung while lighting a menorah:
Baruch atah Adonay
Elohenu malech haolam
Asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
Vitzivanu l'hadlik ner
Baruch ata Adonay
Elohenu melech haolam
Sheh asa nisim laavotenu
Bayamim hamem bazman hazeh.
They finished by singing the children’s game song, “The Dreidel Song.”

Afterwards, the children went upstairs to the West Caldwell Community Center and enjoyed playing with their dreidels and chocolate gelt and spending time with the mayor.
