Chatham Upsets No. 3-Ranked Mendham, 3-2, in Girls Tennis

CHATHAM, NJ - Emily Sroczynski and Alison Ramsland lost the first set, but came back to win at first doubles, clinching Chatham's 3-2 upset girls tennis victory over Mendham, ranked No. 3 in the state, at the Colony Tennis Courts on Monday.
 
Sroczynski and Ramsland, dropped the first set to Stefanie Elling and Charlie Trinco of Mendham, 6-7 (5-2), but rallied to win the second set, 6-2, and the third-set tiebreaker, 10-7.
 
Chatham (9-1) had lost to Mendham three times last season, including the state sectional final match. Mendham (6-1) is the defending Morris County Tournament Champion.
 
"Everyone played their best team tennis," Chatham's first-year coach James Cai said.
 
Also scoring victories for Chatham were Sophia Fredriksson at second singles, who defeated Lauren Hernandez, 6-1, 7-5, and the second doubles tandem of Laurel Hickey and Katie-Howard Johnson, who defeated Sandra Smith and Jennifer Kloehn, 6-0, 6-1.
 
Scarlett Blydenburg at first singles bowed to Mendham's Lauren Hassell in three sets, 7-6, 1-6, 10-8. Chatham's second singles, Bridgette Hickey, also lost a tough three-set match to Katie Guthnecht, 3-6, 6-3, 6-10,
