Chatham Resident Suffers Head Injury in Accident

On March 4 at 9:15 AM, Patrolman Wayne Shivers investigated a 2-car accident at the intersection of Red Road and Fairmount Avenue. Camille Tobia age 48 of Chatham, was attempting to make a left turn from Red on to Fairmount. Tobia started to make the turn and realized that another car was attempting to turn left on to Red from Fairmount so she backed up to give the other car room to make the turn. When she backed up she struck the car waiting behind her, a 2013 VW driven by Mitesh Maheshwari age 33 of Jersey City. There were no injuries reported, both cars were driven from the scene, and Tobia was issued a summons for Careless Driving.

On March 7 at 7:47 PM, Patrolman Michael Permison and Sergeant Daryle Kelly investigated a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Main Street and Lafayette Avenue. A 2013 Dodge Ram driven by Frederick Ott age 52 of Madison, was attempting to turn left from Main Street on to Lafayette Avenue. Ott did not see a pedestrian but did realize he struck something. He stopped and discovered he struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, Rachel Sala age 30 of Chatham, was crossing Lafayette Avenue westbound in the crosswalk when she was struck. Sala suffered a serious but not life threatening head injury and was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Chatham Emergency Squad. Ott was issued a summons for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk.
