According to a report in the Cape Cod Times, the whale was entangled in fishing gear and was freed Friday morning, about two miles east of the Manasquan Inlet.

Amy Anthony of the Cape Cod Times reported that Scott Landry, director of the center's marine entanglement response team, was assisted by Tackaberry, who cut the line anchoring the whale to the ocean floor.

After being cut loose by Tackaberry, the humpback swam away. The whale, estimated to be between 2 and 5 years old, did suffer some injuries to its tail. Center for Coastal Studies predicts it will survive the injuries.
