CHATHAM, NJ -The Chatham girls basketball team got what it needed from its 56-38 victory over Morristown on Thursday night: "Confidence."

Parsippany Hills had tagged Chatham with a 19-point loss on Tuesday and the Lady Cougars needed a positive result after scoring just 28 points in the loss.

The fact that Chatham (9-5) received production from a number of players helped. Natalie Washuta led the way with 15 points and six assists. Cassandra Falone scored 10 while Shea Matta and Morgan Monson contributed nine points apiece. Emily Walczyk chipped in with eight points.

Sophomore forward Abby Schubiger ended with a game-high 17 points for Morristown (3-9).

"Just confidence," Chatham coach Joe Gaba said in reference to what his team got out of the victory. "When you lose at home like we did on Tuesday, you just want to get a win under your belt. We needed to make shots and we made shots. When you shoot 20 percent like we did on Tuesday, you wonder if they're ever going to go in again. We took care of the things we needed to take care of tonight."

Chatham started to gain control of the game when it put together an 11-0 run that spanned the first and second quarters. Walczyk hit a jump shot to ignite the burst and Washuta followed with a 3-pointer. Matta then stole the ball and turned it into a three-point play when she was fouled sinking her layup. Falone opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer that staked Chatham to a 17-10 lead.

A basket inside by Monson, another 3-pointer by Washuta and Walczyk's foul-line jumper boosted Chatham to a 24-12 lead later in the second period.

Falone's 3-pointer from the top of the key in the fourth quarter made it a 46-29 lead with 5:01 to play.
