Chatham Girls Cross-Country Off to a Fast Start at Randolph Invitational

RANDOLPH, NJ - Laura Walsh, Katie Steffens, Julie Hamilton and Abbie Bigham were among the runners who helped Chatham open the 2013 cross-country season at a quick pace on Saturday night under the lights in the Randoloph Invitational held at Freedom Park.
Walsh took 13th place in 20:28 as the varsity girls placed fourth in the Varsity B group race with 104 points. Steffens was 15th in 20:54. The average time of 21:13 posted by Chatham was more than 30 seconds faster than their time at the meet last year, according to coach Julie Ullmeyer.
The other varsity runners for Chatham were: Margot Cosgrove (22nd in 21:19), Regyn Farnan (26th in 21:36), Kat Schmitter (30th in 21:47), Julia DiSalvio (38th in 22:22) and Hannah Brogan (46th in 23:14).
The Chatham freshmen won the gold medal for the combined group Freshman 2655m race with 42 points. Hamilton (10:28.19) and Bigham (10:33.67) finished 1-2 overall for Chatham in a race that included 110 runners aned 10 teams. Also running for the winning freshman team from Chatham were Maggie Schneider, Sarah Abbott, Allison Green, Maddie Zinser and Caroline Vena.
The JV girls placed fifth in the combined group JV 5K with 137 points.The top Chatham runners the race that included 185 girls and 16 teams were Kate Robertson (6th in 22:05) and Grace Malanga (7th in 22:06). The other top finishers for Chatham were Liz Malatesta, Tracy Delade, Kristen Stuzynski, Olivia Perlmutter and Meredith Jenusaitis.
