CHATHAM, NJ – 0 and 10. This was the record of the 2012 Chatham High School football team. However, a new look to the team may help change that for 2013.

On Monday, June 24, Jason Izsa was introduced as the new head coach of the Chatham High School football team. The move was made only weeks before the team’s preseason began, as former head coach Don Morgenroth left to become the head football coach at Montville High School.

“It is an honor to be the head coach at Chatham High School,” Coach Izsa said. “I am very excited, but at the same time I am a little nervous. I have big shoes to fill, and I am going to try my best to make the upcoming season a successful one.”

Chatham High School Athletic Director Bill Librera said that, “Through the job search and interview process, Jason demonstrated the skill set and vision that will provide stability and leadership for our football program for the upcoming season.”

Not only does Izsa have faith that the Cougars will have a successful upcoming season, but the players do too. Senior Jack Duane said that, “It’s hard to have a coaching change right before the start of the season. However, I have known Coach Izsa for many years now and I know he will be able to step up and get the job done.”

Izsa certainly brings enough experience to the head coaching position. He began coaching football in 2000 as the head coach for Madison’s freshman team. In 2005, he became a varsity assistant coach at Madison where he coached defense and special teams. He also teaches physical education in Madison at their elementary school. Then, in 2010, he came to Chatham as the defensive coordinator, linebackers’ coach and special teams’ coach.

“I know all the players are very dedicated, and that will definitely help us have a successful season," Izsa said. "We will keep the energy up, and we will maintain a positive attitude.”

The Cougars begin their season on Sept. 12 at Cougar Field against Montvill--and former head coach Don Morgenroth.
