On July 27 at 2:04 PM Patrolman Brian Colatrella investigated a 2 car crash at the intersection of Watchung Avenue and Hillside Avenue. A 2012 Honda driven by Virginia Lott age 44 of Chatham, apparently went through a red light and struck a 2007 Hyundai driven by Anthony Nehlsen age 22 of Long Hill. Both cars were towed from the scene and Lott was issued a summons for disregarding the red light.
Also on July 27 Patrolman Colatrella investigated a truck into the bridge on Watchung Avenue at 3:08 PM. A box truck driven by Tolsieram Singh age 24 of Staten Island crashed into the bridge while traveling westbound. The vehicle was towed from the scene and Singh was issued a summons for Careless Driving.
On July 27 Patrolman Colatrella investigated a 2 car crash on Main Street near Fairmount Avenue. A 2008 Infiniti driven by Linda Inwood age 54 of Millburn was struck from behind. The second car was driven by Megan Haley age 21 of Morris Township. Both cars were driven from the scene and no summonses were issued.
On July 28 at 1:42 PM Sergeant Jayson Cittrich investigated a 2 car crash on Watchung Avenue near Girard. A 2004 Hyundai driven by Jesse Broome age 30 of Summit, crashed into the back of a car that was stopped in traffic. The second car was a 2011 Jeep driven by Stephen Lasky age 70 of Brooklyn NY. Broome suffered a minor leg injury and was issued a summons for Careless Driving.
On July 29 at 2:03 PM, Detective Joseph Crecca investigated a 2 car crash on Main Street near Lafayette Avenue. A 2001 Honda driven by Marilyn Tepper age 60 of Florham Park was on Main Street waiting to turn into the CVS lot when she was struck from behind. The other car, a 2004 Honda was driven by Hernando Rojas age 44 of Bedminster. Both cars were towed from the scene and Rojas was issued a summons for Careless Driving.
On July 29 at 5:26 PM Sergeant Richard Jaremba investigated a 2 car crash on Chatham Street at Washington Avenue. A 2001 Toyota driven by Nina Steward age 21 of Chatham was driving south on Washington Avenue when she was struck by a car crossing on Chatham Street. The other car was a 2008 Acura driven by Steven Johe age 18 also of Chatham. The Johe vehicle was towed from the scene and he was issued a summons for failure to yield to a vehicle in the intersection.
On August 1 at 9:23 AM, Patrolman Andrew Chase investigated an accident on Watchung Avenue at the railroad overpass. A box truck driven by Karman McNeil age 36 of the Bronx, struck the bridge. McNeil stated that he did not know the height of the truck he was driving. He was not injured and he was issued a summons for Careless Driving.
On August 1 at 2:48 PM, Patrolman Chase investigated a 2 car crash on North Passaic Avenue at Weston Avenue. A 2003 Jeep driven by Analee Delgado age 18 of Belleville was traveling south on North Passaic when she struck another car entering the roadway from Weston. The second car was a 2002 Toyota driven by Mary Scibelli age 27 of Whitehouse Station. Scibelli stated that she did not see the other car approaching. Both cars were towed from the scene and no summonses were issued.
Chief Philip Crosson would like to remind motorists that the speed limit on Watchung Avenue near the Washington Avenue School has been lowered to 20 MPH when children are present. Motorist can expect to see enforcement activity in the area when school opens in September.
All persons charged with an offense are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
