Charity Golf Classic Sends Kids to YMCA Summer Camp

The Madison Area YMCA held its 15th Annual Charity Golf Classic at the Morris County Golf Club in Morristown on June 18th. The Golf Classic is the most important fundraising event for the YMCA’s Annual Support Fund, its need-based financial assistance program. Through the generosity of our sponsors and participants, this year’s tournament generated more than $177,000, which provided more than 200 weeks of assistance for Summer Camp, Membership and Programs for area children whose families could not otherwise afford to participate.
This camp experience allows children to remain in a safe and thriving environment, while their families continue to work. Presented by Citi Global Markets, the event also attracted major sponsorship support from Morgan Stanley, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Madison Honda, the MCJ Amelior Foundation, Andrew Boszhardt and Wells Fargo Insurance Services USA. Madison Honda and Smythe Volvo sponsored two Hole-in-One contests on the course.
A total of 112 players enjoyed a challenging round of golf in near-perfect weather conditions. The team composed of Jim Alexander, Todd Shipman, Martin Rambusch and Bruce Sanford, all from Madison, took top honors. The second place foursome included Mina Mitby of New York, NY, Matt McInerny of Basking Ridge, Park Benjamin of Madison and Matt Maxwell of Brooklyn, NY. The David DePaul foursome, which also included fellow Madison residents Brian McGuire and Brian Gorczynski finished third.
In addition to the team competition, all 112 participants had opportunities to claim individual contest prizes. Matt McKeone of Mount Arlington won the Longest Drive contest for men and Mina Mitby of New York, NY, won the Longest Drive contest for ladies on Hole #11. Ish McLaughlin of Summit won the Closest to the Line contest on Hole #5 and Tim Phillip from Bridgewater, won the Closest to the Pin contest on Hole #15.
New this year was a putting contest. For the second year, golf professional, Karen Noble, taught a women's golf clinic. Sixteen ladies participated in the clinic, which focused on the fundamentals of the game.
After the golf portion of the event, players and guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner while bidding on various gifts during the live and silent auctions. Tournament and contest winners were recognized at the reception for their accomplishments and YMCA staff members took the opportunity to thank everyone, including players, sponsors and volunteers, for their tremendous generosity emphasizing how their efforts made summer camp experiences possible for area children whose families were unable to afford the full cost.
