PATERSON, NJ - Saturday’s forecast of clouds and rain could not stop Paterson’s first annual Chalk Art Competition at the Great Falls. Mohammed Khalil, who works at the Paterson Museam, organized the event that he hopes to become a tradition.
“I do this to spread publicity of the Falls and to have a good time,” said Khalil. “Art is a beautiful way to express yourself.”
From 10 am to 3pm, artists created their various visisions of Paterson. Some drew the Falls, and others drew creations from their own minds.
With the support of Habitat for Humanity, New Jersey Community Development Corp., the National Park Service, and the Paterson Museam, Khalil plans to make this chalk competition an annual event.
“In the summer, I want to make an open gallery, so people can come and enjoy the art,” he said.
