preprBack by popular demand and to keep the St. Patrick’s Day spirit going, the Fanwood Memorial Library is proud to present Grammy Award winning fiddler Lisa Gutkin. Lisa, along with guitarist extraordinaire John Walsh, will perform Celtic and original music at the Library on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.
Lisa Gutkin has toured with her Celtic band Whirigig as well as the Klezmatics, whose “Wonder Wheel" album won the GRAMMY Award for 2006's Best Contemporary World Music Album!. She has composed and recorded music for film, radio, and television. In addition to her appearance on Sex and the City, she has performed and recorded with such renowned musicians as Tommy Sands, John Whelan, Cathie Ryan, Shawn Colvin, Susanna Vega. A great fiddler and teacher this is a not-to-be-missed performance
John Walsh was born in The Bronx, NY- otherwise known as Ireland’s 33rd county at a very young age. At the tender age of 10, his family moved to Kilkenny, Éire where great hurlers are born by the minute. Not being very skilled at the ancient art of Hurling, he took up guitar and was lucky enough to be surrounded by a rich musical heritage in Kilkenny where he learned music of all sorts and kinds. After spending years soaking up as much music as he could, he moved back to NY, met more musicians there and is presently performing, and recording, mostly in his studio, St Canice’s Backyard, based in NY and with his band, Jamison's Revenge.
